**Co-District Champ Bearcats Win Again**

The Antlers Bearcats came to Hugo Friday night and completely took over the domination of the offense, defense and even the halftime show as the last regular game of the 1980 football season came to a close.

When the dust settled, the Bearcats walked off the field, truly a championship team with a 62-12 victory.

Antlers kicked off to the Hugo Buffaloes to start off the contest then allowed the Buffs to move the ball 18 yards before they had to punt on fourth down.

That started one of many touchdowns drives for the Bearcats during the evening.

Antlers took the ball on their own 36. Steve Wayman, who went past the 1500 yard rushing mark during the evening, went 11 yards on the first down then 11 more on the next carry. Robbie Van Burkleo carried it seven followed by Wayman going for eight in two plays and Andy Rogers picking up eight to put the ball on the Hugo 18.

Van Burkleo took the handoff from quarterback Steve Tucker and went across the goal line to put the Bearcats on the board first. Wayman kicked for the extra point.

On the next series of plays, Hugo ran out of steam fast before a strong Antlers defense and gave up the ball in four downs.

That provided another repeat performance of just a few minutes before as the Bearcats went from Hugo's 48 to paydirt in nine plays. Wayman put that goal on the board and added his own follow-up extra point kick.

Going nowhere fast on the ground, Hugo tried to get yards through the air but three pass plays in a row wound up incomplete and the Buffs kicked to Antlers.

Two penalties totaling 20 yards were assessed against Antlers at the start of that drive but even so, Tucker was able to keep the team going and hit Johnny McIntosh on the numbers for a 61 yard touchdown run which just about sealed the fate of the weary Buffaloes.

The Buffaloes fumbled the ball away from their own 33 setting up a touchdown play by Steve Tucker that went in from the 18 inch mark. Toby Winningham scored after another Hugo fumble from 17 yards out.

Glen Romines picked off a Hugo pass and went nearly 37 yards for a touchdown to wrap up the first half.

The second half was much like the first with the only difference being two Hugo touchdowns.

Antlers started the touch-down parade with Wayman carrying from the 29 then Hugo went to paydirt for the first time on a 53 yard run down the left side of the field.

There were still two more Antlers touchdowns in store for the Buff fans with Andy Rogers scoring from the one then turning around on the next series to take off on a gallop for 78 yards and paydirt.

Hugo scored one final time before the end of the game but it was a case of far too little long overdue.

The Bearcats dominated the game with 497 total yards in 60 plays. Hugo picked up 180 yards in 50 plays. The Bearcats had 345 yards rushing and 152 in passing gaining a total of 21 first downs. Hugo only got 165 rushing yards, 15 yards passing and eight first downs.

Wayman ran his total rushing yards to 1538 for the year with 170 gained Friday night. Andy Rogers neared the 200 yard mark with 98 total yards while Van Burkleo picked up 39.

Antlers had to punt the ball only one time during the evening but Hugo was forced to punt six times.

The 62 points scored by the Bearcats moved their total to 293 for the year while only 114 were allowed to be scored against them.

In passing, Steve Tucker threw 12 times completing eight for the 152 yards including two touchdowns. To date he has thrown 93 passes and completed 43.

That win gave the Bearcats confidence going into the first round of playoffs this Friday night. They will be facing the undefeated Sallisaw grid team on the Sallisaw field with game time at 7:30 p.m.
